What’s the difference between Japanese and French Canadian about family and marriage.

I will talk about how different family and marriage is between Japanese and French Canadian. 

First of all, about family. I feel that my boyfriend contacts with his family a lot compared to Japanese guys. My boyfriend talks with his mom 24/7 like his girlfriend lol. It’s not rare for Japanese girl to talk with their mom a lot. But I think there is no Japanese guy that is talking a lot like my boyfriend. But it’s normal in Canada. 

My boyfriend’s parents live 3 hours of car from here. They come to see him once or twice per month. As for me, I meet my parents twice per year like New year’s day and summer vacation. It depends on person, but I think it’s common in Japan. 

I felt that the most different thing with Japanese is how soon you meet parents. I stayed over night at his parents house soon. It was just 2 weeks after I arrived in Canada. It’s very friendly lol. In Japan, introducing boyfriend and girlfriend is usually before getting married. Because people live alone after graduation of university, not with parents. Japanese is more respectful to parents and talking in a more polite way. Here is friendly even with parents. I still need to pay mind to them though lol. 

And of course my boyfriend’s family invite me to their family events regardless of married or not. In Japan, it's normally only after getting married that they join family events. 

By the way, getting married is common in Japan. Most of my friends got married. In Quebec, even have kids, they don’t get married. There is many common law marriage. In Japan, it's very easy to get married. Just sign paper and submit to city hall. But in Canada, I feel complicated. Also need to pay to get married. I also heard people don’t get married because of compensation of divorce. Getting married is really important for Japanese, but my boyfriend said “If we get married or not, our relationship doesn’t change.” Yes, exactly lol. 

I always learn many thoughts that I didn’t think before. I feel that world is big!!!
