Studying abroad in the Philippines VOL1
It’s been seven months since I came to Montreal. I wanna share about what I noticed and felt in my overseas life through this blog. I hope it’s helpful for people thinking about challenging working holiday and study abroad from now.
In this part, I wanna share about how it is to study abroad in Philippine. When I was a student, I did not study any high school English at all, and I studied only in the field I majored and was absolutely far from English. My English ability had stopped at middle school level. Even my TOEIC score that when I was student was around 330 lol. So first of all I challenged to study English in Philippine.
The good points of studying abroad in the Philippines:
☆Cost
Less than half compared to Canada, America and England etc.
☆Class
Schools such as the United States, Canada and the UK are all groups, but one to one classes are enriched in the Philippines.
☆Quality of teacher
Quite friendly and do their best to teach. They have an accent but it’s doesn’t matter too much. ☆Activity
I was in Cebu, so there was various activity such as snorkelling and scuba diving.
I think that it is roughly like this. Regarding safety, as long as you do not go out alone during the night, no problem. But watch out for pick pockets. If going to school is your purpose, it’s easier to make friends. Also You learn English through hanging out with them. I think the thing I wanna tell you about the most is class. Allotted time is not much in a group class. But in a one to one class, your allowed time is all the time. I really recommend studying abroad in the Philippines.
What I prepared before going to Philippine in 3months:
☆Remembering book called Ultimate English word of Aruku
☆DMM English conversation
☆Studying grammar using book called Forest.
It was mainly like this. I think that Aruku book was really good cuz I didn’t have any basis of words. About DMM English conversation was about 1 month, but I managed to introduce myself in English somehow. Forest is a classic textbook. This is very easy to understand.
In this way, I studied abroad for about 5 months. My TOEIC score after coming back to Japan was 550…. My English wasn’t even close from where I wanted It to be. Compared to 330 in college days, it is quite amazing. Still better compared to when I was a student though. It was about the fall of 2015. So I will talk about how I study English next time. Thank you for reading my article until the end.
